School trip, October 1953

Students from 4th through 8th grade were permitted to take this trip to the Capitol.  We travelled overnight by train.  Note many of the girls and all of the ladies who led the group wearing hats.  And all the white gloves!  Not sure what a 9 or 10 year old would have gotten out of this trip, but a number of us were there.

In 1957, Mary Lee Cushing, Denise Aranda and Marjorie Swagler looked 15 years into the future to 1972 and prepared a "Class Prophecy" for their classmates in SM Ruth Frances' eighth grade section.

This "class song" was written by
Judy Fell and Diann Kelly.

Two more "class songs," one by
Kathy Zimmerman and the other
by Mary Lee Cushing.

If you were enrolled in the earlier grades, you may remember the old, white frame church building and the tree-shaded frame rectory.  In fact, if you were here for the second grade, you would have made your First Communion in that church. I can't recall for sure whether any of the altar boys in our class ever served Mass in the old church.  Possibly.

Aside:  Pope Benedict is reviving the Latin Mass. (As Pat Buchanan remarked, "It doesn't get any better than this!!")  Better brush up on your Confiteor and Suscipiat!

Speaking of First Communion a moment ago ... were we given pins to commemorate that event?  Like this ...

Curious artifact

I think that's what this is.  Anyone remember?

Old and new churches
