Shall We Dance?
Everyone should know how to Two Step. It's the basic social country dance for duple-time music. Its counterpart in ballroom dance is the fox trot. The Two Step is so named because its characteristic phrase consists of two steps taken on the lead foot (L for the gentlemen, R for the ladies) on two consecutive counts of the music. Take a closing step with the other foot on the half-count in between. Count: one-and-two; Prompt: step-together-step. Hmmm, two steps on the same foot in two counts of the music .... hmmm, two steps in two counts .... hmmm, why don't we call this the Two Step? Follow that phrase with a gliding step on the other foot and you have the entire dance: step-together-step...sliiiide. Ready for the Western Swing? Wait! Don't sit down! They're going to play a Waltz!
